Earth Day 2025: Our Ongoing Journey to a Greener Future at Des Kelly Interiors

Written by Rebecca mccormack on April 22 2025

Since our last Earth Day post in 2024, at Des Kelly Interiors we have continued to evolve and grow our sustainability efforts. What started as us making small changes in our stores and offices has expanded into a bigger commitment across our business. We’ve made it our mission to provide more eco-friendly products and help our customers make more sustainable choices on their home renovation journey.

This year, Des Kelly Interiors are proud to share that we have continued to enhance our mattress recycling programme and increased awareness around FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC-certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) products to help our customers make informed decisions. Want to make your home more sustainable? Keep reading. In this blog, we’ll share our top tips on how to make your interiors more eco-friendly.

Why Sustainability in Home Interiors Matters

As Earth Day reminds us of our responsibility to protect the planet, it’s important to consider how our choices inside the home can impact the environment. Some flooring materials can contain synthetic materials and harmful chemicals which can contribute to pollution in the long run which is why we are proud at Des Kelly Interiors to support a greener future. We do this by offering sustainable flooring that helps minimise environmental harm without compromising on style or quality. From eco-friendly materials to responsible sourcing, we’re helping homeowners make choices that align with Earth Day’s mission—because every step towards sustainability begins right at home.

Choosing Eco-Friendly Flooring Materials

FSC Wood – Stylish & Sustainable

An FSC Certification is granted by the Forest Stewardship Council who ensure that the wood comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. By choosing wood with a FSC certification you are supporting sustainable forestry practices that help prevent deforestation. That’s why we’ve made it our mission at Des Kelly Interiors to provide a large range of FSC-certified wood floors. Our Quickstep Engineered wood flooring all have a PEFC label as they source their wood from controlled sources,  protecting primaeval forests and preventing illegal logging with a risk analysis. The core of Quick Step Hardwood is made from either wood from fast-growing trees (spruce, hevea) or a high-density fibreboard (HDF) made of recovered wood. By choosing our FSC and PEFC-certified flooring, you're not only enhancing your home — you're helping protect the world's forests for future generations.

The Naturals Collection by Coretec

Our Naturals range by Coretec features a rich palette of soft, earthy tones that echo the serene beauty of untouched landscapes — all to be enjoyed from the comfort of your home. But it’s not just about looks. With GREENGUARD Gold certification, this range provides a healthier indoor environment by bringing the essence of clean outdoor air inside.

Recycled Carpet - Eco-Elegance

Recycled carpets are made from post-consumer materials like plastic bottles which are then turned into high-quality-durable yarns. Opting for a recycled carpet is one of the easiest switches you can make to help reduce your environmental footprint without compromising on aesthetic appeal. Our Revive Carpet Collection is proudly accredited by the Global Recycle Standard and crafted entirely from 100% recycled polyester with a durable woven backing—making it an ideal eco-conscious choice for your home. Paired with our SpringBond underlay, which is composed of 85% recycled PET plastic bottles and other single-use plastics, you can achieve a truly sustainable flooring solution from top to bottom. Choose Revive & Springbond for a floor that’s kinder to the planet.

Sustainable Sleep – Our Mattress Recycling Programme

Through our partnership with Eco Mattress Recycle, we help you recycle your old mattress the right way. Mattress materials are disassembled and repurposed ensuring valuable materials can be reused instead of ending up in landfills. Eco Mattress Recycling can guarantee they will never resell or reuse a mattress that they receive. By recycling your old mattress you are doing your part to help reduce the illegal dumping of mattresses and supporting a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
