Carpet Fitting – What to Expect
We want your carpet fitting to go as smoothly as possible.
Below is a step-by-step guide explaining what will happen on the day of your fitting and how you can best prepare.
Stage 1 – Before the Fitter Arrives
- On the morning of your fitting, your carpet fitter will collect the work scheduled for that day from our warehouse.
- Your fitter will contact you between 8:30am and 9:30am by call or text with an estimated time of arrival.
- Carpet fitting appointments are scheduled as all-day appointments, and exact times cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Stage 2 – Arrival & Pre-Fitting Checks
- On arrival, the fitter will:
- knock and introduce themselves
- carry out a full walk-through of the job with you
- The fitter will check:
- access to rooms
- door clearances
- stair and landing layouts (if applicable)
- An authorised person who is familiar with the product must be present to confirm the correct carpet before fitting begins.
- If any additional work is required, this will be:
- explained clearly
- discussed with you before any work starts
Stage 3 – Unseen Pipes, Wires & Services
- Carpet fitting may require:
- nailing of gripper rods
- fixing of trims or accessories
- It is the customer’s responsibility to:
- identify any hidden pipes or electrical wiring
- make the fitter aware of these before work begins
- Responsibility cannot be accepted where services are:
- hidden close to the surface
- not properly protected in line with building regulations
Stage 4 – Existing Floor Coverings & Uplift Services
- If uplift or removal of existing flooring has not been arranged:
- this must be completed before the fitter arrives
- If this cannot be done in advance:
- please contact your sales advisor
- uplift or removal can be added to your invoice (additional charges apply)
Stage 5 – Furniture & Room Clearance
- Rooms must be as clear as possible before fitting begins.
- Small items may be moved on the day, however:
- large or heavy furniture must be cleared in advance
- Every effort must be made by the customer to have rooms ready.
Helpful Tip
- If you are having multiple rooms fitted (e.g. bedrooms and landing) while living in the home:
- consider splitting the job over two separate days
- clear furniture into one area, complete part of the job, then move items back
- This often makes the process far easier and less stressful.
Stage 6 – Binding, Tape Edges & Finishing Details (Important)
- If your carpet requires:
- binding
- tape edging
- special stair or landing finishes
- The fitter will:
- talk you through how the job will look and finish
- explain the process before any shaping or cutting takes place
- If you have:
- reference images (e.g. from Pinterest or online)
- photos of a finish you like
- Please show these to the fitter before work begins, so expectations can be clearly agreed.
- Any specific requests on how you would like your carpet finished should be discussed in advance, not after fitting has started.
Stage 7 – Completion of the Job
- Once fitting is complete, the fitter will:
- leave the area clean and tidy
- stack any leftover materials or offcuts neatly
- Before the fitter leaves:
- please take a few minutes to inspect the work
- raise any concerns or snagging issues immediately, while the fitter is still on site
Stage 8 – Payment on Completion
- Our fitting team are fully equipped to take card payment on site where applicable.
- A full invoice or receipt will be provided once payment has been completed.
Stage 9 – Aftercare & Ongoing Support
- If you have any questions or concerns after your fitting is complete, please contact your local store directly.
- You do not need to go through the fitter — our sales team are always here to support you.
Thank you for choosing us to help turn your house into your home — we truly appreciate your custom.
Final Note
Carpet fitting is a form of work.
Minor marks, noise, and disruption are normal parts of the process, and our team will always do their best to minimise these.
