Now that the weather appears to be getting a bit better – sometimes our homes can appear to be a bit tired. Even on a budget, you can create a home that looks like a room from a showhouse. Making just a few changes, without too much cost, can increase the value of your home without too much expense.
Looking at your home from the outside in is always the first step when looking at simple home improvements that will add value to your home. A fresh coat of paint to the exterior of the home will always make it look inviting. Paying attention to lawns and flower beds, cutting back on oversized shrubs and adding some fresh plants are also another reasonable way of adding value to the home.
Decluttering / Storage
Storage is such an important part of a household, it gives the home order, especially in multifunctional rooms, such as the living room , where children are also using the area as a playroom or study area. To provide a relaxing environment proper storage can clear away the chaos of the day. Proper storage is fantastic when selling a home as during viewings you can tidy everything away with ease and give an air of tranquillity.
To give your kitchen a revamp without costing the earth consider painting the cabinets and replacing the door handles as these are effective ways of home improvement without the extreme cost of a full remodel. Choosing a neutral colour scheme and providing an update to the backsplash will be effective. Updating tired dining chairs or upcycling them with a paint job and re-cover of seating can give a warm and welcoming feel to the space.
Simply put a fresh coat of paint will always update this space and make it feel loved and cared for, however for that added extra without breaking the bank you could replace tired carpet with a contemporary laminate floor , which will give a brighter more spacious feel to the room. Keep colours neutral and make the soft furnishing of the pop of colour in this room such as artwork, cushions or a nice cosy rug.
Outdoor Living Space
Bringing the home that one step further and adding that extra room to the exterior is always a great plus when selling a home. Setting up your decking/patio space and giving it the feel that it is an extension of your home is always a plus. Adding that alfresco dining experience with table and chairs but also a seat or bench gives you an ‘extra room’ where you can just hang out informally depending on the space available to you. Giving that area an extra bit of attention with simple lighting and potted plants is a cost-effective way of improving the space.
